The art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China. It wasn’t until 1913 that Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as ‘zone therapy’. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
At the first visit a thorough consultation will cover your full medical history, general health and the stresses and strains of your life. Reflexology is a completely non invasive therapy and therefore only the removal of sock and shoes is required. Your will lie on our heated couch (which you control) and your feet are cleansed with anti bacterial wipes. Then relaxing foot stretching and massage techniques are used to help you relax and whilst this is happening we will then take note of foot colour, texture, hard skin and other information that will help us to rebalance your body and to deal with any ailments that are causing you discomfort. Then specific movements, which are not ticklish are performed across the whole of your foot and lower legs. Any areas of pain or discomfort will then be addressed. Near the end of the session you will then be given a short foot and leg massage to end the treatment.
Reflexology can be worked on babies to the elderly. We have had great success with clients who have had fertility problems, period imbalances, stress-related conditions, IBS, headaches and insomnia. If necessary, reflexology can be performed on a person’s hands instead of the feet.
